American Student on Trial for Murder in Italy
A lot of mystery and controversy has surrounded the accusation and trial of 21 year-old Seattle resident Amanda Knox. She stands accused of taking part in the murder of another student while studying abroad in Italy.

This case has been present in italy for over a year now. She has been held accountable for the death of her roomate. Over the past year, the Italian police officials and government has goin against the constitution and her right to habeus corpus. Now, they have finally granted her that right although it has taken an extended amount of time. On the other hand, since she was convicted in another country, the officials could react and act more brutal to her compared to a citizen since she is a foreign person.
Knox, the alleged murderer, has been in custody for over a year and a verdict isnt expected until some time in 2010. This is terrible and depressing because if she is found not guilty she has already wasted a year of her life. This is a violation of Habeus Corpus. Although another student who was studying abroad has already been convicted so that might suggest that this case is going to end with her pleading some kind of guilt.

i think that this is bad because it has been over a year now since she has been in jail which is a waste of her time. the government is going against the constiutuion and her right to habeus corpus. i see why this is though because it is in a different country and im not surprised the result ended up like that.

It sucks to be convicted over a crime in another country because you may not have the same rights as you do your home land. I think that Italy is violating her right to habeas corpus, but she is in another country so there is not much to be said or fought here, when Italy may not have the same rights as we do in the U.S.
I think that this trial has gone on long enough, how awful it must be to have this go on for a year. although the government is going against habeus corpus , they know can bring her back to the states and can have a american trial. she is though in another country so i do agree that since she supposeldy killed that roommate in italy i think that italy does have a right to treat her like any other citizen in italy.
this is terrible that she has wasted a year of her life in jail. if this happened in our country then he government would be violating her right to habeus corpus. since they are in a different country though they can do what they want. i think since she is not from italy the officials could make her punishent worse.

Yeah this cause goes against her right to habeus corpus but i think the verdict shouldn't take so long. If they have evidence of her to the crime, id stop there and the case would be over but i dont know why the italian gov't it taking so long to give the alleged murderer her time. Possibly publicity.

I thought this case was done with since the media had cooled down their coverage of the whole knox fiasco
Although they did violate her right to Habeus Corpus that is a right that our country had given us not a right that can be protected EVERYWHERE in the world.
Fact of the matter is that when you get charged in another country especially for something as serious as a murder than you can't expect the government there to respect your rights no matter where you came from.
It's sad that she's wasted a year of her life but the evidence against her is pretty hefty so who's to say she wouldn't be in jail either way?
Habeus or no Habues.
