Obama Gives Major Address in Egypt

Candidate Barack Obama promised to restore America's image around the world, and to improve our relationship with the Muslim world. He made his most high profile attempt to reach out to the world's Muslim's today. Below is a link to the story in the New York Times, and a video clip from TouTube, and MSNBC for those that are trying to watch this at school. The print stories have more detail on the substance of the speech.

Your reactions? What constitutional role is the president fulfilling as he speaks to the nations of the world where Muslims are a majority?

I think that Barack Obama did well speaking to a mostly muslim coutry from a mostly christian country. I really respect that he wants to make the United States image better than it has been in the past i feel that he is really embracing freedom of religion in our constitution even if it isn't necesarily in theirs it shows that he honors his country by respecting others acording to our great constitution.

I agree with Kelsey. Obama did a very good job in the name of America by being completely respectful to a country who has very different beliefs my majority to ours. He respected our constitution in that he respected their freedom to religion and didn't discriminate against them.

I agree with both Kelsey and Alexis that Barack Obama is beginning to restore the peace of the world. Even though there may be some disagreements to his actions, it does not matter. He is the President of the United States and has the obligation to make decisions that are most beneficial for the American people. Through the years of countless controversial events with people of the muslim culture and their terrorist actions, I agree with Obama's actions. He is showing devotion and dedication as the President of the United States to insure the people's safety and also feelings towards the Muslim people.

i agree, obama did a good job speaking for the US and being respecful to a country who has very different beliefs then us whitch can probably be hard at times because he is coming from a country that is mostly christain and going to speak in a mostly muslim country. i think that shows a lot about americas character and how far it has came since slavery being that freedom of religion was a big problem in our constitution.

I watched a follow up on the speech, and i must say he had a well kept composure. Not only that the news reporter had some interviews with Muslim's from the middle east that watched the speech. They said that they felt respected with his speech and followed acceptable cultural customs through out the speech so it sounded like they were impressed! Maybe the relations in the middle east will finally change -Jacob Goss

Obama did a very good job of trying to connect our two very very different worlds. Both the US and middle east are very religious and sometimes that's usually where things begin to clash. We all need to just realize that we need to respect the differences in each other. I feel Obama is definitely taking action in changing the way America view the middle east and how the middle east views America. It is time that we as a nation together stop expecting so much out of one person to change our nation but take little steps in our own lives to reach this "change" together!

i think Obama did an excellent job speaking to a country that is very different then ours. he also did a good job handling the feelings towards the muslim people in a respectful way. i think this deals with freedom of religon because he is respecting other religons. i think obama also showed devotion as the president because he is helping peoples safety.
