I and many others think that a President Barack Obama is the best equipped individual to repair America's reputation around the world. A president is not only the Commander-in-Chief, but with his powers under Article II of the Constitution to negotiate treaties with other nations, is what political scientists call our "Chief Diplomat". And I think he would be the most effective Chief Diplomat we've had in a long time. Just read the reactions the world is having to his winning the nomination in this article in the Seattle Times, reprinted from the Washington Post - it begins:"For much of the world, Sen. Barack Obama's victory in the Democratic primaries was a moment to admire the United States, at a time when the nation's image abroad is in tatters."

"Ah, Democracy in action". This statement has been heard around the world, said by many a concerned citizen and history teacher. But these folks are almost certain of an Obama victory come November. Have the primaries taught us nothing? We watched as a candidate with "inevitability" fall behind and eventually loose the race. Assuming that Obama will be the next president will do nothing to actually bring it about. "Democracy in action", indeed.
