WA State GOP: No automatic citizenship for kids born in U.S. to illegal immigrants | Seattle Times Newspaper

Politics State GOP: No automatic citizenship for kids born in U.S. to illegal immigrants Seattle Times Newspaper

This was an interesting development over the weekend at the WA State Republican Convention. It looks like they are going to make a big issue of illegal immigration. I don't think most Washingtonians will like the idea of kids being caught up in the middle of the immigration debate - it could make the Republicans look mean-spirited. However, many people may see it the way the Republicans do. Read the article and see what you think.

This idea does not surprise my in the least as it comes from the GOP. Personally, I find it unbelievable that any of these so called Republicans would try and push an agenda to disenfranchise illegal immigrants in our state. The real problem is that these stubborn old men are so resistant to the assimilation of illegal immigrants that they would try to change the United Constitution, and it makes me furious. Illegal immigrants come to our country to try and work to create a better life for themselves, but only face resistance and persecution at every turn.So much for the "land of opportunity," as these conservatives try to erase the backbreaking effort of a population. What these people fail to realize is that their own ancestors struggled to build the American dream in an parallel to what most illegals are attempting to do today. If this is the best idea to help deal with illegal immigration that our states GOP can produce, its no wonder they are loosing their support in our nation. Time to wake up and realize that change is good Republicans.

AND may I add:

A big part of the immigration debate that is often left out is that if we want to slow the tide of immigrants into this country, it would be much more productive to help nations like Mexico build a stronger economy. If people could find good paying jobs in their home nations, they would have to make risky and dangerous attempts to find work across an increasingly hostile border.

Changing the Constitution? that seems harsh and not necessary. Border control can be improved. I agree with the fact that if they are illegal coming into this country and having babies that the parents should have to become US citizens or be sent back, I dont want to sound mean but the fact that you just jump the border and have a baby is wrong, its not fair, its not right and its causing overpopulation in our nation. Its a difficult topic, however I really feel like illegal immigrants babies should not be US citizens either.
