No Gay Marriage in California

The legal challenge to California's Proposition 8 has been rejected. There was one small victory in the ruling however: gay marriages that were performed before the ban took place will remain legally recognized by the State of California.

Current Event #9

I feel that this is total bulls***, because people deserve to marry who ever they want to marry. Its not fair to only allow marriage between heterosexual couples. Gay marriage is perfectly fine for those people who want a same-sex marriage. This violates the freedom of expression, because marriage is a form of expression and you don't have to have a heterosexual marriage. Same-sex is perfectly fine.

I think that it would be a horrible decision to try and ban gay marriage in any state anywhere because any way you look at it, it will be discrimination. You cant allow straight people to get married and then deny the gays. Even though it is looked down on by alot of people for being gay it still isnt right to deny them the right to get married, they deserve the same rights as anyone else.

I think that marriage has always gone hand in hand with religion and from what I understand God doesnt accept gays. I think this might be where people have a problem with gays getting married. I dont think this is a violation of any rights, no one ever gurenteed gay rights.

I think this is dumb! I believe that any two people in love should be able to have the marriage rights. Whether it be straight, gay, bi, who cares their orientation? And really what does this have to do with those who don’t agree with this? What problems does it create for straight people who don’t believe in gay marriage? Geez. I think that this is violation of the 14th amendment which i know sounds a little strange, but it is discrimination. The 14th amendment sums up that we all have equal protection of laws.

I agree, the fact they are taking away proposition 8 is discrimination against the gay community. Even if someone didn't believe in gay marriage doesn't mean they should get the right to decide people's happiness for them. The fourtneenth amendment says that we shouldn't discriminate against people for their race, gender, or religious preferences, pretty much under any conditions and i think that it should be legal for two people who are in love to get married if that's what they desire to do.

I think this is wrong not to let gay couples get marry. They should allow people to marry who they want because if some is gay they should get the same respect as the other people that are not gay. Everyone deserves to marry who they want. By not letting someone do what they want i believe that they are not gettine the same respect as the other. having gay people get marry does not make any problems so they should just be able to marry who they like.

Dylan does have a point with his opinion on this non gay-marriage proposition being an example of todays discrimination. It doesn't matter whats been the law back then because back then the system was still messed up and for our country to come together now, we need to abolish any sort of way for discrimination to become a mishap today.

As much as I don’t like gay marriage I think people should be able to get in the same sex relationship if that’s what they feel is right for them. people don’t have control over who they have feelings for nor should it matter to anyone else . If you love someone you should be able to be with them no matter what. On the other hand I don’t think it should be called marriage this is taking away proposition 8 is discrimination against the gays. Also, If im not mistaken this ties into the fact of going against the basic human’s right of freedom of belief. Same sex relationships should be aloud with a different name other then marriage. You can be gay just don’t be gay around me unless your 2 females :).... inappropriate? Sorry

I think gay marriage should not be considered discrimination when you don't allow them to get married because marriage should be between a man and a women. People are not born gay, they choose to be. All the rest of the people writing these comments are scared to write anything offensive even if it is actually their opinion, except Conner. It is as simple as that, if you want to be married, DONT BE GAY.

I think that though some people may have very strong arguments supporting the opposition, people SHOULD be able to marry whoever they want to whether same or opposite gender. Don’t get me wrong I am not personally a fan of seeing gay couples holding hands walking down the street but it’s not my place as an ignorant American citizen to tell them that they can not do that. Limiting marriage rights goes against freedom of expressing because to get married is for two people to express their love for one another therefore gay marriage SHOULD be legal.

i think that gay marriage should be allowed in all states. people should be allowed to marry who ever they want as long as there happy. i think denying gay arriage could be violating the fourteenth amendment becasue it deals with equal protection and everyone should have to get married no matter what the gender. that is why i think gay marriage should be legal.

i think that gay marriage should be allowed in anystates for several reasons. i believe that any person that wants to get married should be allowed to no matter what the race or gender. i think that it would be unconstitutuional because it would be violating the fourteenth amendment. everyone is equal and should be able to get married. if a man and woman can get married i think a man and a man should be able to get married.
