Tibetans Rise Up Against Chinese Rule

Peaceful protests by monks led to a violence after Chinese police harshly cracked down on them late this week.

Some video from the Associated Press has been uploaded to youtube at:

UPDATE:
The violence has continued, with the Chinese police cracking down hard on Buddhist monks and others who have demonstrated against the Chinese government. They are accusing the Dalai Lama of orchestrating the protests.

The Communist Party that controls China is not only cruel, but foolish, and an embarassment to itself. Denying basic political freedoms to 1/6 of the world's population will never make them great leaders.

The question for us, is how do we stand in solidarity with Chinese dissidents and hold the government accountable?

I think China needs to catch up with the present time. You can't just run into a country and wipe out the people these days with no one hearing about it like America did. Info spreads like a wild fire.

I know I'm probably gonna get flamed or something but I think China in some ways is like the US. They're just trying to control some land other people were on. I think this might lead to civil war, but by no means a world war. We import too much stuff from China to boycott them. I don't think the US is gonna get involved.

That's not to say I think what China is doing is right. It's invading Tibet and creating an unequal social and economic status between Chinese and the Tibetans. (Hmm... I wonder where this happened before?) The way I see it Tibets gonna have to go though a whole lot of shiizzz in order to gain equality. Then one day after they've been rocked for such a long time and the Chinese govt stop being such assholes they can gain equality while still being under Chinese control. Like the US Constitution, which didn't really give people equal status for a while, I don't think the Chinse Consitution is gonna give equal status for the Tibetans for a while, if ever.

i'm back. this paragraph doesn't completely relate to your blog, i hope that that's alright. but it will, just read.

well goodness gracious, tom. my mom believes herself to be buddhist, and she is a strong believer in all that the dalai lama says. and i must admit, that man has his charms. she has me look at pictures and listen and watch and read a few things here and there, and from all that i have read, seen, and heard, i am amazed at how peaceful the dalai lama and the buddhist monks are and all they believe in. i really have to give them props for supporting an absolute peaceful world, and in a way, i admit myself to be somewhat buddhist, too. i mean, i don't quite follow any one religion in particular, but i have found the beliefs of the buddhist religion to be most interesting of them all. ANYWAYS, my point in all of this is, i find myself absolutely sick to my stomach at how tibetans are being treated in their own country. i mean, come on. they basically silently protest, and get MASSACRED for it. it's appalling. china has no place to be there. they have a monstrous country of their own, i mean, what is it, second or third biggest in the world? i dunno, its somewhere up there with russia. i think it is time they gave tibet the freedom it deserves, and give the dalai lama a chance to return to his home country from exile. since this isn't really about the US, i don't know if i'm supposed to tie it back to constitutional principles, but if i am... what the chinese are doing to the protesters is an obvious violation of freedom of.... well, everything.

time for bed, goodnight mr. coraggio!
