Governor Gregoire

It's official. At least we think so. Christine Gregoire has been pronounced Governor-Elect of the State of Washington. Republicans are no doubt feeling that their candidate has been robbed. Democrats are jubilant. Any thinking person knows that yes, Dino, this has been a "mess". However, no matter which candidate won, at least half of the state would be seeing this as an illegitimate and unfair election.

It was close, but the laws of the State of Washington have been followed. The only thing left for Mr. Rossi to do is to appeal the results in court or before the legislature. Read up on exactly what happened. I had a good link in a previous posting and today's Seattle Times had a good Q & A article to explain things.

I think that becoming the governor of the State of Washington in 2004 has to be a lousy job. The State has a huge budget deficit, nobody wants new taxes, and most voters are expecting more out of our government. The people of the state are being realistic. At least when Ron Sims ran for the Democratic nomination earlier this year, he talked frankly about the need to overhaul the State's tax system. Neither Rossi nor Gregoire seem to have the nerve to make the voters swallow the bitter medicine that will be needed to face up to our State's needs.

Read up on this and tell me what you think.

"The recount was not: 1. one side being a sore loser, Gregoire or Rossi 2. an exception to what normally occurs in elections, in the machine or the manual recount. A PROCEDURE has been established by law that mandates an AUTOMATIC recount if the election is within a 0.5 percent range, Gregoire did not demand or ask for this count.

At the end of this count, the margin was one thousandth of a percent! Anyone would be an idiot to concede when a state election with over 2% of votes being spoiled when the margin is 0.001% before a manual count. A recount was then requested by Gregoire for the FIRST time. This is however not unique, Republican Slade Gorton requested a manual recount just four years ago when he was behind by over 2200 votes, a huge amount compared to Gregoire's 142 vote deficit.

Even without the corrections of clerical errors adding over a hundred votes to Gregoire's lead, Christine Gregoire leads Dino Rossi at the end of the PROCEDURE established by law. Dino Rossi should concede not based on the some right that he possesses to alter the election, but because the procedure to determine the victor has ended, and Gregoire has won. Conversely, Rossi tried to force Gregoire to concede before her electoral rights had been exercised, which is bullshit.

Gary Lee is awesome, but a democratic piece of shit.

Stop being smart, and start doing logic.

1 + 1 = 2
1 = 1

2 > 1

well the media has done it again. even though gregoire won by less votes than the margin of error in the vote counting process. i think the seattle times forgot to say that. also how do 8500 or so more votes than registered voters in king county alone become counted. a revote sounds nice, because last i checked 2 > 1.
