Michael Moore's new film opens today, and it promises to take some pretty good shots at the President. Moore is calling it the equivalent of an op-ed piece. Some conservatives are up in arms and have tried to get theaters to refuse to show the film.
With all the controversy that has come up over this film, I was wondering how many of you are planning to see it? Liberals, progressives, Democrats, and the anybody-but-Bush crowd are expected to be out in big numbers to see it. What about those of you who are independent or Republican? Are you considering seeing the film?
I probably will see the movie in the next few days and will post a review. In the meantime, let me know what you think about the movie. Also, Moore was upset the movie got an "R" rating. Do you think it deserved the rating and why?

I watched this powerful movie, and I tried to get as many of my friends from SU to go with me as well (the ones staying up here for the summer). I expected it will do well, but not come out as the #1 of the weekend! Only 865 theatres were playing it, compared to 2,500 for the next most watched movie.
The film as a whole is very good, but does not contain much that any of us that stay well informed on current events don't know. But four to five days of research in the library is what he summarized for us in the two hour movie. One thing that surprised me was the Saudi's influence on US economy! (To find out what I mean, go watch it!)
I don't believe it will change anyone's point of view unless you were a voter sitting on the fence leaning to Kerry, but in the current polarized climate, those undecided voters are hard to find.
The 'R' rating? I did not think it was deserving of it. PG13 would have been enough since after middle school, every American child has seen and heard it all. If you think otherwise, you are living on a moral fantasy island. It drops a couple of f-bombs and shows a couple dead children and adult civilians, the latter of which are results of botched American military action.
It is amazing to see the soldiers' reactions from when they first went in, and after staying there for a while. I don't want to say too much...GO WATCH IT!!

I haven't seen the movie yet, but I am definitely looking forward to it. My only concern about the film is Michael Moore's somewhat sketchy reputation on reporting the pure facts. I generally tend to question anything done to the extreme, and, since he has described Farenheit as an 'op-ed' piece, I am wondering how much of the movie will be more biased then expository...
I saw Farenheit 9/11 a few days ago and it told me a whole lot about what President Bush was doing "behind the scenes." For instance, I had no idea that Bush and many memebers of congress had connections with many of the Saudi Leaders. Also, only one person that passed the Patriot Act in congress actually read the entire document. I had no idea!!! I thought that the movie didn't have to be rated R because of the fact that there is only scenes of violence for about 15 minutes of the whole film. There was hardly any swearing either. However, the film would be pretty hard for younger kids to follow or understand all of the concepts discusses. That might have been the reason for the R rating. I recommend that everyone see this film because it's not only educationally entertaining, but anyone could benefit in some way from watching it.
