World Food Crisis on the Horizon?

Like too many other Americans, I ate more calories worth of food than I needed today. In fact, the extra plate of pasta I had at dinner was probably bad for my long term health.

Yet, as many of us in the developed world overeat, hunger still exists in our world, and it might get a lot worse if we don't act soon. As if this world doesn't have enough problems, the World Food Program is now warning the world of a 'silent tsunami' of hunger.

Like the problem of carbon emissions and global warming, this problem shows that with over 6 billion people on the planet, we have to be smarter and more fair in how we use our resources. Read the article, and think about whether or not basic nutrition is a fundamental human right. Frankin Roosevelt gave a famous speech just prior to WWII in which he said that the "Four Freedoms" worth fighting for were freedom of speech, freedom of religion, freedom from fear, and freedom from want. In today's news, Prime Minister Gordon Wood of Great Britain said that, "Tackling hunger is a moral challenge to each of us."
What responsibilities does the world have to make sure that all on our planet have enough to eat, and what does the article suggest can be done about it?

i think that in a way we have been bringing all these problems to ourselfs(atleast faster). Like global warming, we all know its been happening but its our fault that we have been meking it worse with all the things that we use, such as cars which uses up alot of gas and the more we use the more we need and then prices get evenhigher, and big fumming factories. And if it wasn't because of us making global warming get here faster our food crisis wouldnt be as big, because it has always been here. So i think that if we are causing it to get here sooner then we should try to help out to make things better, even if its just something very little cause even the smallest things can always make a difference.

America has been the main reason for this "drought of food" because we have been raised to want more. More than we need and at times even more than we want. I think that if we give to other countries that we will slowly move out of the most hated country in the world category and move into the...well they are okay I guess section haha. It is our responsibility to make sure that we arent overly greedy and give back to others. I always see advertisements for helping out kids or adults in other countries with no food or money, yet we dont do anything about it, some could say we have to worry about our own problems first, i think that even though that is true, we cant forget the little guys either.

Hello!
Yes i do believe that basic nutrition is a fundemental right. Everyone should be able to eat 3 or more meals a day every day because we do have the proper amounts of food and supplies they are just not being distributed in the right way. Americans are fat and eat mcdonalds like every day while countries like Africa and Asia get hardly anything. This has been going on for so long its sad. i know everyone talks and talks we have the money and opportunity to help the people that need help so lets help blah blah but yea nothing is changing so the people that lead this country should hurry up innocent children and men and women are dying as we speak because of their poor leadership skills, instead of trying to make americans more aware of this they should make the change happen its kinda their job..

I found this article very interesting because we all of course know basic nutrition is a right to all, but how can we do this is the correct answer to be asking. Something I think that is extremely ridiculous is the obesity of our nation in comparsion to 3rd world countries who would be happy enough to have even one meal a day. Im not going to sit here and act like im perfect, but i honestly beleive that if we personally in this country are on all of these diets and people are getting diabetes at young ages, doesnt that let you know something?? I mean this is where the governement should get involved even if the people dont want it, which I beleive a lot of people for once actually wouldnt mind. We are not only being greedy here in the states, but we can save lives, and we have these oppurtunities to, but yet.... we dont. We just sit and do nothing. I mean a lot of this might not even be on topic but its just how I feel on the situation....
